COL D'ORCIA
Brunello Montalcino Poggio al Vento Riserva 2001 Alcohol content 14% vol. 100% Sangiovese Grosso. The wine ages 4 years in oak barrels and another 2 years minimum in the bottle. Visually it presents itself with a fascinating, very bright garnet color. Broad, intense and easily recognizable olfactory panorama. From initial hints of cherry and other red fruit jam, it moves on to violet and dried flowers to finish with black pepper, nutmeg, carcadè, tamarind and balsamic and tertiary notes of tobacco and leather. In the mouth the wine is no exception and offers a tasty sip with soft tannins and a pleasant freshness and elegance. It ends very long with fruity and spicy sensations. Excellent paired with juniper roe deer.
Production area:
Montalcino - Siena - Località Sant'Angelo in Colle. Hilly terrain exposed to the south.
Vineyards:
Poggio al Vento, altitude 350 meters above sea level. Year of planting 1974.
Climate trend:
Vintage characterized by the strong frost on April 16th which drastically reduced the quantity, fortunately to the advantage of quality. A heat wave in the last week of July and the first week of August again significantly brought forward the harvest.
Grapes with which it is produced:
Particular clones of Sangiovese, locally called Brunello. 2001 harvest yield: 53 q/ha. Manual harvesting with rigorous selection of the best bunches carried out first in the vineyard and then on a sorting belt in the cellar.
Winemaking:
Fermentation at a controlled temperature below 30° C. Maceration lasting 25 days in low and wide stainless steel tanks (greater contact between the skins and the must with greater polyphenolic extraction). Daily punching in the morning, pumping over in the evening.
Aging:
4 years in Allier and Slavonian oak barrels followed by over 2 years of bottle refinement, all in air-conditioned environments.
Organoleptic data

Intense ruby red with light garnet reflections.

Inviting, enveloping and still youthful. The fruit of the great perfectly ripe Sangiovese dominates the intriguing spices of the oak.
