Fass Nr. 9 Vernatsch
Classification
Alto Adige DOC
Production area
The vineyards around the town of Girlan and the village of Colterenzio are located at 450 meters above sea level on moraine hills from the glacial era. The position and exposure of the slope guarantee optimal sunshine which, together with the morainic-gravelly soil, gives rise to an elegant wine, with good aging potential.
Winemaking
The harvest of these grapes, which come from vineyards with an average age of 30 years, takes place manually in small containers for transport to the cellar. Destemming and fermentation of the grapes in stainless steel vats. After malolactic fermentation, aging for 5 months in large oak barrels.
Sensory notes and suggestions
The delicate character of Vernatsch and the concentration of velvety tannins make Fass Nr. 9 an extraordinary wine: easy to drink and complex with a pleasantly harmonious persistence. It was the first Vernatsch that managed to find its way onto the wine lists of luxury restaurants as early as the 1960s. Our choice of the best vineyards, as well as a restrictive limitation of quantity, has given Fass Nr. 9 a pioneering role in times without DOC regulation. Recommended with typical South Tyrolean first courses such as dumplings or Schlutzkrapfen, white meat or a snack with cold cuts.
