Name: Barolo DOCG

Variety: Nebbiolo (100%)

This first release of Vietti's Barolo "Riserva" is the result of a "selection within the selection". While we were working on the definition of the Barolo “Castiglione” blend, we were struck by some of these wines made from specific plots of the individual crus.
In particular, the combination of their intensity, elegance and excellent tannic structure was impressive, a fundamental characteristic for great aging potential. This led us to decide to blend and bottle them separately. Only 5,000 bottles of this wine were produced.

Vineyard: A selection of a few small parcels for the 2015 vintage, all located in various crus in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto.

Geology: calcareous marls. The age of the vines is between 25 and 45 years; farming system
Guyot, with an average density of around 4,500 plants per hectare.

Winemaking: All the parcels of the individual vineyards are harvested, vinified and refined separately, each with different methods, in order to enhance the typical characteristics of the specific "terroir". Hand-harvested in early October 2015, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before being conveyed into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Contact with
the peels lasted three to four weeks. This period includes both pre- and post-fermentation cold maceration, with the traditional submerged cap practice. The malolactic fermentation was carried out in wood.

Aging: The wine was aged for approximately 30 months in large oak barrels. Subsequently, all the parcel selections were carefully assembled before bottling.

Description: Medium intensity ruby red colour. On the nose it presents a very complex aromatic expression with notes of truffle and undergrowth as well as red and black fruits (cherry, blackberry, plums and figs) and balsamic nuances. On the palate it is medium-bodied, rich and powerful.
The tannins are well integrated into the fruity structure of the wine. A lively acidity enhances the depth of the wine. Balanced. Long and persistent aftertaste.

Pairings: Stews, game, red meats and mature cheeses.
